Do you have Fleas? Call us on
Fleas are a pest of your pets or the previous tenants pets. Another very interesting insect, quite a survivor.
When your dog or cat gets fleas a male and female flea will inject your pet with a tiny pain killer and blood thinner and then push a probe into your pets skin and gorge on their blood, once fed this sets off a hormone in the flea and sets off the breeding cycle, the two Fleas then mate and the male dies, the female lays her eggs and also dies. So an adult flea with the pet local will hatch, jump on the pet, feed, breed and die within 48 hours!! This means that flea treatments on dogs and cats fur are killing fleas that would be dead within 48 hours anyway !! The eggs the female lays fall off the pet and into the surrounding area wherever the pet has access to, carpet pet bed etc. The eggs then hatch and become tiny larvae that feed on skin scales in their environment. They then pupate and turn into adult fleas then the process starts again and they will be dead within 48 hours if the pet comes walking by!!
The important thing here is to remember that the way to treat fleas is to treat the environment, a water based residual spray is used on the carpets and floors in the house and full eradication can be acheived.
One of the favorite things for our customers to do is that once they realise the pet has fleas is to banish them from the house, this is not wise, without the dog or cat in the house the fleas will be hatching into adults and will be hungry, with no pet to jump on they will use whoever walks by including you and your children, feeding happily on you for up to 2 years but being unable to breed as your blood will not set off the breeding cycle. Another common occurence is for our customers to move into a new house and even if they have no pets they get bitten by fleas, this is most often a similar circumstance to the one noted above whereby the previous tenants had pets and once removed from the house the fleas get very hungry and feed on the new tenants.
